Abstract:
Ash Meadows, a small valley in southwestern Nevada, contains many endemic species of fishes, invertebrates and vascular plants threatened with extirpation first by largescale ground water withdrawal and now by real estate subdivision. This paper outlines the problems which the native fishes faced in the 1970's and how they were solved. Present threats to the perpetuation of the Ash Meadows natural ecosystem is described and a solution is offered.
